Waste Ventures is constantly on the look-out for help from talented people who are interested in volunteering with us. Through us you can get an experience of the inner workings of a social enterprise, while at the same time helping to create a completely new paradigm for solid waste – reducing poverty and having a postive impact on global greenhouse gas emissions.
Right now, we are looking for volunteers to help us with our research projects that aim to create a solid base of data for our fieldwork as well as our aim to influence policy makers to shift legislation of solid waste management. Some of the areas that we right now are looking for volunteers to research are:
- Compost markets - reviewing the markets for compost in India and other countries, with a specific focus on the types of compost available, the price offered and the acceptability of compost as a soil conditioner
- Compost as a soil conditioner - reviewing the quality of municipal compost, what results can be achieved with it as a soil conditioner as well as what kind of additives are best in the context of rural agriculture in developing countries
- Waste-to-Energy - what are the current solutions for waste to energy? Are there successfull projects that have been able to work with this area in the bottom of the pyramid?
- Policy - what are successful and/or unsuccessful policies for solid waste management across the world? What does the current policies being suggested look like?
We are looking for people who can contribute 10-20 hours per week throughout the project, and in the end produce reports as well as quantiative statistics for the area being researched. We believe you are an undergraduate or graduate student, with a keen interest in the type of work we do and a hard-working attitude.
