As part of the run-up to the Skoll World Forum, SocialEdge – where our CEO Parag is an avid blogger – is running a series on the question of what the current state and future of philanthropy. Telling the experience of our work in Waste Ventures and his other social enterprises he lays out the four types of philanthropy – Ego, “Bang for the Buck” and Game-Changing.
We have no question on what types of philanthropists we are looking to engage with, and what kind of organization we would like to be. Parag’s (and the rests of our team’s) question to you, whether a funder or entrepreneur, is which category you fit into? What are the types of change you are creating – and if you’re in it for the “bang for the buck” type of action – is that something really worth doing? Also, with the new possibilities for individuals – as opposed to organizations – to create change, is philanthropy even relevant any more?
